Some anniversaries call for dinner reservations and a card. Others call for a boat, a cooler full of cold drinks, and a sky full of fireworks. This one? Definitely the latter.
We decided to take Mom and Dad out on the water to celebrate their anniversary — and honestly, it might be the best idea we've ever had. There's something about being out on the lake as the sun goes down, the water going still, and the first burst of color lighting up the sky that just hits different.
Setting the Scene
We got out early enough to claim a good spot — close enough to see everything, far enough back to actually enjoy it without the boom rattling your teeth. We strung a few lights along the railing, packed a charcuterie board (Mom's love language), and made sure the playlist was ready before the signal got spotty.
Dad, of course, was already in captain mode. Mom was already judging the playlist. Some things never change.
The Fireworks
There's no better seat in the house than the water. No crowds, no traffic, no craning your neck around someone's lawn chair. Just open sky, the reflection of every burst shimmering across the lake, and the kind of quiet between explosions that makes you feel like you're exactly where you're supposed to be.
We watched the whole show from the bow — blankets out, drinks in hand, nobody on their phone (okay, mostly nobody). It was one of those nights that doesn't need a filter.
