July 4th is loud. Sparklers, crowds, someone's uncle with a megaphone.
Hank and Lucy spent the day on the boat.
Hank was asleep before they cleared the dock. Lucy sat at the bow, watching the water, watching the other boats, watching everything — and saying absolutely nothing about any of it.
What the Day Actually Meant
But somewhere between the open water and the way the light hit the lake in the afternoon, it felt like the right day to think about what all of this actually means.
The United States is a strange and remarkable thing. A country built on the idea that people from everywhere — different backgrounds, different languages, different stories — could show up and build something together. The melting pot. The experiment. The place where Hank and Lucy's people came from somewhere, and ended up here, and made something that's entirely their own.
That's not nothing. That's actually everything.
Freedom, Unbothered
Freedom isn't just a flag or a holiday. It's the ability to move at your own pace, live on your own terms, and wear what you mean without explaining it to anyone. It's the space to be fully yourself — unbothered, unfiltered, unapologetic.
Hank has always understood this instinctively. Lucy has always enforced it.
Two dogs. Zero apologies. One very free country.
However you spent your 4th — on the water, in the backyard, or just somewhere quiet with good company — we hope it felt like yours.
Hank slept the whole way back. He looked very at peace with the state of the nation.
Lucy watched the shoreline the entire time. She had thoughts. She kept them to herself.
