Last weekend, Hank and Lucy received a very important invitation: the Grand Opening of the new dog park at Lower Huron Metro Parks in Belleville, Michigan.
They accepted. Mostly because we said it was time to go.
What happened next was not what anyone expected.
Hank & the Food Truck
Hank walked in, assessed the situation, and immediately identified the most important thing at the entire event: the food truck.
He didn't care about the ribbon cutting. He didn't care about the other dogs. He didn't care about the freshly opened green space stretching out in front of him. There was a food truck. That was the event. Everything else was background noise.
He planted himself nearby and stayed. Unbothered. Immovable. Completely at peace with his priorities. If you walked past him, he looked up just long enough to determine whether you had food, and if you didn't, he looked away. No hard feelings. Just facts.
Hank spent most of the Grand Opening within ten feet of that food truck. He has no regrets.

The kind of dog park experience Hank would approve of — if he could talk. He'd probably just stare at you until you handed him something.
Lucy & Everybody
And then there was Lucy.
Lucy — the one who sizes you up in silence. The one who renders verdicts without a word. The one who does not explain herself.
Lucy went table to table.
She worked the entire park like she'd been waiting for this moment. Picnic table to picnic table, dog to dog, human to human. She met everyone. She greeted everyone. She was, against all prior evidence, an absolute social butterfly.
Was she judging them the whole time? Almost certainly. But she showed up. She engaged. She made the rounds with a confidence that said I'm not here because I have to be — I'm here because I decided to be. And that made all the difference.
By the end of the afternoon, Lucy had met more dogs than we could count and charmed more humans than we expected. She left having made an impression on everyone — which, if you know Lucy, is exactly how she would have planned it.

The Park Itself
The new dog park at Lower Huron Metro Parks is genuinely worth the trip — open space, room to roam, a real community feel, and apparently, a food truck situation that Hank considers a permanent five-star amenity. The Grand Opening brought out dogs of every size and energy level, and the whole thing had the kind of easy, unhurried vibe that Hank and Lucy both, in their very different ways, fully embraced.
If you're in the Belleville, Michigan area, go. Bring your dog. Find the food truck. Let them surprise you.
The Bottom Line
They arrived together. They did completely different things. They met a ton of dogs, soaked up the whole afternoon, and left completely exhausted — which, for two dogs who treat rest as a lifestyle, is the highest possible compliment a day can receive.
Hank found the food truck and never looked back. That's his review. That's the whole review.
Lucy worked the room, met everyone, and left having said everything — without saying much at all. She's still deciding how she feels about being called a social butterfly. She'll get back to you.
